ORAL HYGIENE

Dental hygiene treatment is aimed at cleaning the mouth, including teeth and gums, and keeping it healthy. This treatment is performed by a dental hygienist and usually includes the following steps:

  1. Information and instruction:
The dental hygienist explains how to properly care for your teeth and gums to prevent gum problems and cavities.

  2. Cleaning:
Removing plaque and tartar, both above and below the gums, using special instruments.

  3. Polishing:
Polishing the teeth to remove surface stains and smooth the teeth, which helps prevent new plaque buildup.

  4. Fluoride treatment:
If necessary, fluoride is applied to strengthen the enamel and prevent cavities.

  5. Aftercare and advice:
Advice on how to maintain your oral health at home and planning any follow-up sessions.

A visit to the dental hygienist helps in the early detection and treatment of gum problems, keeping your teeth healthy for longer

Periodontal trajectory

Inflamed gums (gingivitis) can in some cases progress to inflammation where the bone around the teeth recedes. This is called periodontal disease. Regular oral hygiene is insufficient and a more intensive process is required to stabilize periodontal disease.

This process consists of a periodontal measurement (periodontium status) during which a map is made of the inflammation in the mouth. Based on this map, a good estimate of the number of necessary treatments can be made.

These treatments consist of thorough dental cleaning at short intervals during which tartar is removed under the gums and individual oral hygiene is optimized. The healing is monitored. 3 months after treatment, a new measurement is carried out to determine the difference in healing and to discuss follow-up.
